SOUTH AFRICAN MASTERS TRACK & FIELD FIXTURES FOR 2014

The first masters provincial championships, (Northwest North Province) of 2014 will be held on 22 February 2014 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, near Rustenburg,  where the S.A. Masters Championships will also be held on 25 & 26 April. A contingent of masters athletes from Botswana are expected to participate - Raj R. Rathedi. All athletes 30+ are welcome to participate. Entry form and programme will be posted from mid-January. State of the art Royal Bafokeng Stadium, situated about 20kms outside of Rustenburg, Northwest North Province, where some of the fastest sprint times in South Africa have been recorded.

Congratulations Margie Saunders, new SA Record (60+) at Aspen PE City Marathon. 3hrs 16 give or take a few seconds. Mas ters Athletics - RSA   World Masters Championships held in Porto Alegra during October produced the following result in the Womens 60 Marathon. Marge would have taken the title. UPDATE FROM BRAZIL ON TEAM SA MASTERS In the past 2 days of competition, South Africa added approx. 30+ medals to their already 40+ medals to date, after the 400m, 1500m and weight pentathlon events. The last addition included 17 Gold, 9 Silvers  and 7 Bronze, which may bring the total up to a record breaking 70+ medals ! Hopefully there might be 2 or more after the half marathon and marathon events, which took place today. A special mention must be given to Lucas Nel (M90-94) of KZN who won 5 gold medals in 100,200,400,800, 1500 and just missed out on the world record (1.35,04)in the 400m with a time of 1.35,64, “Dit wil gedoen wees Lucas”. AND TO Borge Stannius (M85-89)of GN, who won 5 gold in the shotput, discus, javelin, hammerthrow, weight throw PLUS weight pentathlon event (includes the 5 field events), in other words he competed in each event twice! You’re both an inspiration to us all

MASTERS' RE-ADMITTANCE TO INTERNATIONAL SPORT IN 1993, WHEN ATHLETES COMPETED IN THEIR FIRST EVER WORLD CHA MPIONSHIPS IN MIYASAKI, JAPAN. SINCE THEN S.A. MASTERS ATHLETICS HAS GONE FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH, WINNING DOZENS OF MEDALS - INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM - AS WELL AS TITLES FOR OUR COUNTRY. WEDNESDAY 16 OCTOBER 2013 WILL SEE ALL THE MENS AND LADIES CROSS COUNTRY EVENTS OVER 8KM, AS WELL AS THE MENS DECATHLON AND LADIES HEPTHATHLON EVENTS. THE OPENING CEREMONY WILL ALSO TAKE PLACE. SMILING WINNERS OF THE LADIES S.A. WALK TEAM IN 2007, ITALY WALKERS' WINNING WAYS - HEADING FOR BRAZIL !! LAST, BUT NOT LEAST ARE OUR MASTERS' WALKERS, WHO WILL BE PARTICIPATING AT THE WORLD CHAMPS IN THE 5000M TRACK WALK, THE 10K AND 20K  ROADWALK EVENTS FOR MEN AND WOMEN. THEY HAVE BEEN THE PRIDE AND JOY OF S.A. MASTERS AT MANY OF THE PAST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, WINNING NUMEROUS INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM MEDALS AND ARE BOUND TO REPEAT THESE WINNING PERFORMANCES AGAIN THIS YEAR. THE TEAM OF SIX LADIES AND 3 MEN HAVE PERFORMED EXCEPTIONALLY WELL THIS YEAR, 2 OF WHOM BROKE S.A. RECORDS LAST SATURDAY AT THE S.A. ROADWALK CHAMPIONSHIPS IN CAPE TOWN - ELSA MEYER AND FRED CLEMENT. LESLEY VAN BUUREN TOOK THE 702 - WALK THE TALK 20KM TITLE THIS YEAR AND WILL BE TAKING ON THE BEST IN THE WORLD IN HER AGE GROUP. BARBARA NELL ACHIEVED PROTEA COLOURS AS A MASTER'S ATHLETE IN SENIOR COMPETITION AND IN 2001 BROKE THE WORLD RECORD IN THE 5000M IN THE 45-49 AGE GROUP WITH A TIME OF 24:14. DURI

A FEAST OF MIDDLE AND LONG DISTANCE RUNNING AT WORLD MASTERS A feast of middle and long distance running awaits masters athletes from South Africa at the upcoming World Masters Athletics in 5 days time.   Our strength lies in the middle distances when  7 Men and 8 women from across S.A. are about to enter the battle of the middle and long distances at the 20 th   World Championships in Porto Alegre, Brazil, commencing on 16 October.   Our middle and long distance athletes will definitely be a force to be reckoned with and as in past World Champs, they are expected to bring home the medals as well as a few titles, PB’s and even S.A. records. Of particular interest will be the Women’s 45-49 age group in the 800m where the likes of Salome Vermeulen (GN) will be competing.   She is ranked 3 rd   in the 800 and 1500 going into the championships, and achieved  personal best times earlier this year of 2:17,93 (which was not ratified for technical reasons) and 4:47,81 (the latter w

These methods are associated with different means that allow for the targeting of the desired adaptations within the process of achieving sports mastery.  These two methods are General Physical Preparation (GPP) and Specialized Physical Preparation (SPP).   General Physical Preparation The first method of foundational training is called General Physical Preparation (GPP). MASTERS JUMPERS AND THROWERS AIM FOR NUMEROUS PB’s, MEDALS AND TITLES AT THE 20 TH WORLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PORTO ALEGRA, BRAZIL FROM 16 – 27 OCTOBER 2013. In the jump events, 8 men and ladies' athletes will be competing in the high jump, long jump and triple jump at the world championships.  Their best ever performances and rankings going into the championships could produce PB's, medals and even titles for South Africa. High Jump M 40-44                Johan Mans        1.84   ranked 2 nd in the entries. M80-84                 Leo Benning       ranked 1st Long Jump and Triple Jump Vincent McBride (50-54) well known as a Triple jumper during the ‘80s makes a welcome return to athletics and will be competing in the Men’s long jump and triple jump.   He holds the age group record in the triple jump with 12.21m.   In his prime Vincent won the SA Senior and SA U.21 titles
