Of the almost 500 entries received from the 9 provinces, the statistics show that this will be one of the most highly rated championships ever to be held in the more than 40 years of Masters Athletics in South Africa.   We welcome our neighbours from Namibia - Nelia Landsberg and Errolice Tjipura in the sprints and jumps.   Jumpers, sprinters, throwers, walkers, vaulters will be out to impress and achieve, with their focus on the World Masters Athletics Championships in Malaga, Spain during September. The depth in each event and the calibre of athlete is higher than ever before and bodes well for masters athletics going forward, considering the  30 S.A. and 3 World Record holders competing: Current SA Recordholders : 1.         Monty Hacke

IT WAS GREAT TO SEE 3 Olympian Greats, Shaun Bownes (47), Willem Coertzen (35) and Burger Lambrechts (45) who graced the track and field with their performances at the Central Gauteng Masters Championships in Germiston last Saturday. Although in participating in two different age groups in the 110m hurdles, Shaun (45-49) ran 14,51 and Willem (35-39) ran 13,92 respectively which now places them both 1st on the World Masters Rankings for 2018 in their age groups. Although they ran in the same race, and the hurdle specs are the same, the age difference is what counts in the end. Shaun also raced in the 100m flat winning his age group with a time of 11.56.
