Just to whet the appetite of our S.A. supporters, we list below a few highlights of previous world indoor championships where our athletes competed very successfully in the past, considering that the majority of our athletes had never set foot in an indoor stadium before in their lives !
The first World Masters Indoors Championships was held in 2004 in Sindelfingen, Germany where about 5 South Africans competed very successfully.

The 2006 championships were held in Linz, Austria. 5 South Africans competed, among them, the Springbok Hammer thrower, Basie Koen, who won the title in his age group.

In 2008 the champs were held in Clermont-Ferrand,
France, during which time 10 athletes from S.A. competed, including the two Springboks, Basie Koen and Reg Marchant who won titles in the hammerthrow and shotput respectively. Besides the shotput, other field throws events were held outdoors.

2010 in Kamloops, Canada - South Africa were represented by 5 athletes, of which 1, Ada Booyens won two titles in the 3000 track walk and 10km Road Walk. Tone van Rensburg took gold in the Weight throw.
Now we are looking forward to our largest team of athletes to compete at a World Masters Indoors, and we are quite sure that they will do us proud, and have the time and achieve the performances of their lives on the indoor circuit and bring back the medals, records and titles !

2012 - Jyvaskyla, Finland - 4 athletes from S.A. of which one, Dinah Heymans (current chairperson of Free State Masters) won gold in the W.45 High Jump in S.A,'s first World Indoor Record of 1.65m !
2014 - Budapest, Hungry -12 Athletes descended on the WI, with Shaun Bownes (40) taking gold in a superb 60m hurdles race with a time of 8.12s, after qualifying in the heat with a time of 8.08

2017 - Daegu, South Korea - 5 athletes from S.A. competed, one or two athletes finishing in the top 3 in their event
